Berlín vive un boom económico

Tiempo de lectura:  3 minutos

Berlin is buzzing right now. The city is fresh from a bold campaign to tempt London-based startups and proudly holds seventh place in the Global Startup Ecosystem Report. If you’re looking for a city primed for business growth, this is most certainly it.

Stable foundations

While the German capital is known for its forward-thinking ecosystems that foster startup growth, its established industrial economy hasn’t gone anywhere. Berlin has helped Germany to reach 17th out of the 190 economies rated in the World Bank’s Doing Business ranking.

In PwC’s annual survey of CEOs, the number of German businesses predicting worldwide growth in 2017 exceeded the global average. Their optimism is unsurprising given the national economy’s recent performance. At the start of 2017, economic growth hit a five-year high as GDP rose 1.9% and the government once again required no new borrowing. Unemployment is at a record low, and both private and public spending are on the rise.

Growing ecosystem

This economic growth is one of the many factors transforming Berlin into a real hub for new businesses – Startup Genome reports that the city is the second most attractive in the world for startups after Silicon Valley. And, with as many as 2,400 active tech startups benefiting from the boom, it’s clear that the world is taking notice.
Berlin has its arms open to foreign business owners too. 43% of business founders in the city are immigrants – more than any other city in the world except Silicon Valley. What’s more, companies across the board are increasingly seeking to emulate the startup mentality and respond quickly to new developments. Our research shows that 45% of German businesses believe being more reactive to market changes will drive their strategy in 2017.

Forward-thinking workforce

Berlin-based companies are also being supported by a workforce that’s increasingly open to modern working patterns. 63% of Germans told us that flexible working hours help create a better work/life balance – above the global average – and a further 62% said it benefits their business by bringing them closer to clients and prospects.
As well as boosting demand for office space in Berlin, these changing attitudes are opening German businesses to online collaboration. 94% of Germans report that mobile working is strongly driving the take up of cloud applications, for example, meaning that meetings on the ground can be quickly followed up online.

Comfortable environment

For businesses looking for a more permanent base in Berlin, there are plenty more draws. For quality of life, Berlin usually sits high in the rankings thanks to good education, lots of cultural venues and high employment. Depending on whether you listen to PwC or Mercer, it ranks either 6th or 13th in the world. So your colleagues and employees can enjoy their time both in and out of work (which only serves to boost productivity).
